Wear behaviors of PCD and diamond-coated tools during low-frequency vibration-assisted drilling CFRP/Ti stacks

Carbon fiber–reinforced polymer (CFRP) and titanium alloy stacks play a significant role in the aerospace field to improve mechanical properties of assembly components. Low-frequency vibration-assisted drilling (LFVAD) can realize periodic contact separation characteristic between tool workpiece, thus pose high potential for manipulating machinability CFRP/Ti stacks. In present study, two types tools (polycrystalline diamond (PCD) diamond-coated tool) are adopted, wear behaviors deeply evaluated during Meanwhile, specific influences on performances comprehensively analyzed under LFVAD with minimum quantity lubrication (MQL). The results show that Ti-adhesion is observed both tools. edge fracture key mode dominating PCD tool, coating peeling main less Ti-adhesion. addition, increasing number drilled holes, demonstrates better lower cutting force, hole quality, more hole-making number. findings this paper contribute providing guidance optimal selection low-frequency MQL.
